|Description||The Youth Small Bore rifle program is a precision .22 rimfire rifle training program for youths and young adults between the ages of 11-21.|
Every Thursday 6:00pm – 9:30pm except the first Thursday of the month.
We are members of the NRA,(governing body for Olympic shooting sports), the , and the .
We train to compete as individuals and as a team. We strive to provide a SAFE and enjoyable environment to further the shooting sports through our youth. We are separated into two division, seniors and juniors. These divisions are separated by degree of skill. Seniors are more accomplished shooters and are generally focused on a goal of competitive shooting, with an emphasis on coaching them. We also have a competition team, “TEAM YSB”, that participates in a number of matches held in New Jersey and the surrounding area, with a goal of attending the Nationals held each year at Camp Perry, Ohio. Juniors are the beginners and intermediate level shooters, where the focus is on instruction of the fundamentals of shooting, such as: safe gun handling, sight picture, trigger control, learning the positions, range rules, line commands, etiquette as well as an introduction to casual competition. This is done so every youth shooter can set and achieve goals that are both progressive and rewarding.
Our co-chairs, Mr. Rich and Mr. Joe are both NRA certified RSO’s, Rifle Instructors, and NRA Coaches. The assisting staff is well trained in rifle shooting, and has numerous certifications among them as well. This allows us to direct our training toward each shooter individually depending on their skill level and needs, and to adjust the instruction and coaching as each shooter progresses. We also have a BSA registered and certified rifle shooting merit badge counselor on staff.
Every shooter is instructed and coached with a positive reinforcement type of curriculum, in a relaxed and fun environment, and we mix it up with some casual shooting and plinking from time to time. Each week’s meet is started and ended with a brief lesson and evaluation of that week’s goal. Youth shooters can also choose to work towards achieving NRA qualifications and rankings. We occasionally hold some “special events” throughout the year.
The OBRPC generously
sponsors this program by having all necessary equipment, ammo and the
facility for training.
All we ask is $3.00 per week dues, a winning attitude, and a desire to learn.
We coach an athlete first, winning second, philosophy.
